Dark Souls 3 Simple Weapon Comparison: Which One Suits Your Playstyle?

As such, this curved greatsword is an excellent armament for dealing with the more defensive enemies. The poise and health damage that is it does with both normal attacks and its weapon skill are reason enough to pick up the Exile Greatsword, though strength builds running some intelligence may be interested in giving it a simple infusion. After being infused in this manner and upgraded to +10, this large curved blade will do 161 physical and 169 magical damage with solid B-tier scaling in strength and surprising S-tier scaling with intelligence.

Despite the name of this straight sword, if one is going to infuse it, they are better off going with a refined infusion instead of a dark infusion. This weapon is clearly geared towards strength and dexterity builds, so the dark infusion's B-tier scaling with intelligence and faith will do little good. A refined infusion leads the Dark Sword to gain B-tier scaling in both strength and dexterity at 198 physical damage.

Used in infusion to create simple weapons and shields. Requires the Giant's Coal for Andre the Blacksmith to infuse. Infusing this gem adds magic damage, and intelligence scaling, but lowers base damage and general absorption, as well as other scaling.

Much like how the fire gem adds fire damage to a weapon but removes scaling and reduces damage, the deep damage adds dark scaling and does the same. The benefit here is that Dark Scaling deals more damage in PvE and has fewer enemies that are less prone to it.

For what its worth, the deep gem is a decent option for caster-type builds who want a weapon on the side and just do not want to go with a raw gem for aesthetic purposes. The deep gem deals dark damage, which is more in line with caster-type builds. This build is especially nice with Dark Pyros and Dark Sorcerer Builds (check out our pyromancer and sorcerer build guides). Much like the fire gem, Dark Souls 3 Infusions also add in stagger which means they will work fine against most PvE enemies.

Since Strength and Dexterity builds are some of the most used builds in all of Dark Souls 3, these infusions are some of the most popular infusions in the game. While there is not much to say for these infusions are some of the simplest infusions in the game, they do remove base scaling. To maximize the effectiveness of these Dark Souls 3 Infusions, we recommend a Strength (for heavy gem) or a Dexterity (for sharp gem) level of at least 45 each. These Dark Souls 3 Infusions let weapons be buffed, which makes them all the better.

While there are multiple ways to obtain this gem, one of the simplest ways is to acquire it as a drop from the larger enemies in Archdragon peak, just make sure you go in wearing everything that enhances your item discovery. While Lightning infusion can buff up any weapon, we recommend weapons like great hammers and ultra greatswords. Make sure you have a faith level of at least 45 the maximize the utility of this Dark Souls 3 Infusion.

The Crystal gem is akin to the simple infusion, but with intelligence scaling and no FP regeneration. The reason it ranks so high up on the list is because of the versatility it offers to Sorcerers in Dark Souls 3. The ability to have your favorite weapons and heave them scale with intelligence translates to a world of possibilities for Sorcerers. Such Dark Souls 3 Infusions will allow sorcerers to experiment with different weapons and cause devastating amounts of damage. This is also excellent for melee sorcerers.

The Chaos gem gives you fire damage, much like the fire gem, but this gem makes it scalable with intelligence and faith. This gem is perfect for pyromancers and dark pyromancers. The ability to have fire damage that scales with your primary stats means your weapon of choice will be outputting insane amounts of damage.

However, some Dark Souls weapons are more complex, less durable, and/or simply harder to use than others. Conversely, some weapons are well-suited for those still getting used to the game, with simple and broadly-applicable movesets and no obvious weaknesses. For those setting foot in Lordran for the first time, some weapons will never steer them wrong.

The longsword is a staple of nearly any video game with melee combat. It's an all-rounder weapon that, unlike its real-world inspiration, is just as easily wielded in one hand as in two. It is exactly this in Dark Souls as well, a simple weapon with no obvious weaknesses.

The following weapons are considered the best scaling weapons in Dark Souls 3. Most will scale A in STR or DEX when heavy or sharp infused, B/B when refined, S in INT or FAI when crystal or lightning, and A/A in INT/FAI when dark or chaos infused.

Simple and blessed weapons (and shields) are normally used for their other effects, not really for their damage. That being said, most weapons that have good elemental scaling (see the previous section) also scale well for simple and blessed infusions; weapons that normally scale S as crystal, lightning, chaos, or dark scale A with simple or blessed infusions.

You can infuse a weapon/shield with simple or blessed gems, two-hand a weapon and still get the effect. My question is if there are some that can be used for that with the less weight. I know that most small shields weigh 1.5, but is there anything lighter?

Most classes start in the range of about level 8, with one notable exception. The Deprived class starts with a crappy weapon, a crappy shield and no armor to speak of. There's a great reason to become Deprived, though: Every stat is fixed at 10, and you begin at level 1. Arise Deprived, and you're in for a tough beginning, but once you get past that, you can effectively create your own class by purchasing the cheapest levels in the game. Ascending from level 2 to 3 is a lot cheaper than playing an Assassin, who must earn enough souls to begin leveling from 10 to 11. And if you change your mind, you've got decent starting stats for everything.

Each weapon in Dark Souls 3 becomes more powerful when you pour your souls into leveling up certain attributes. This is the weapon's Attribute bonus. If you find that your weapon of choice likes certain attributes, then you now know what to level up.

Been playing Dark Souls 3 a while and still scratching your head attempting to understand weapon scaling? Bemused at how weapons never seem to be as effective as you desire? This guide has you covered. To begin with, let's go over some simple things first, such as what weapon scaling is.

In order to maximise your attacking efficiency, you need to increase the attribute that scales best with the weapon you choose. If you were wielding the dagger, you'd naturally need to increase dexterity consistently throughout your playthrough. It's that simple.

He may feel the ability is too powerful, or he may simply be playing up the creepy nature of how he view's the ability. If your character is good and they rationalize the ability as forcing evil to redeem themselves, I think that makes a lot of sense, and is a good way for the character to view the ability, but your DM may still call out that that is a rationalization. Review the flavor text around specters...they are souls that have been prevented from passing on by dark magic, exactly what the Hexblade is doing, and as a result they are undead and viscously evil as a default. Imagine if a NPC Hexblade used this ability on one of your fallen companions? Wouldn't you be a bit horrified by it?

Depending on how you have flavored the actual patron, this could take different forms. If your patron is the soul of a sentient weapon, as is common with the subclass, maybe you get an animated armor, a pair of flying swords, or other similar construct. If your patron is the Raven Queen or a stand in for her in your DM's setting, maybe you summon a darkling fey with some extra hit points instead of a specter. All of these might be good options to re-flavor and adjust the ability to keep your fun, and address the setting limitations. 2ff7e9595c
